#6- Professors are actually not that scary and are pretty cool… At least
in discussion-based classes.
Before your college years you always hear about these enormous classes with a professor who just stands there and talks at you and whatever their word is, is law. You also hear about professors who are too busy to teach in these classes because they're researching, so a TA teaches the class, and from what I've heard, it usually isn't very thrilling (and that's putting it very nicely).
Whereas these may be true at many larger collegiate institutions, I go to a smaller-sized campus. What is really cool about the size of the school is that the professors are actually the ones who are teaching the classes. I'm a second semester freshman and I've taken 5 classes with a professor with a doctorate, and all of those classes minus one was a class of 20 or less. We get to know our professors very well, and they are all down-to-earth guys and gals.
Unfortunately, there are times you have professors even at these smaller schools who aren't so hot. The most unfortunate aspect of this ordeal is you them very well and they also know you very well. You'll hear more about one professor in particular as the college lessons go on.
On the flip side, I absolutely love the discussion-based classes with professors like these who are all loving and force us to think outside the box. These classes end up being the best, because you get to know your class so well, your professor so well, discuss topics of importance in society, share and defend your opinion and talk about what life really means and why we're here. This is what an education really means.
